Hi and welcome!
I hope you’re enjoying all this recent rain, and even if you’re not, you’ll have to admit that it’s one day less of summer we’ll have to endure. It’ll be august before you know and we’ll really be in trouble!
I can only hope that this doesn’t last until Thanksgiving like it did back in 2002 when we had all that really bad flooding.

Subject: an open letter concerning UCISD and Batesville Students
1. On July 21, 1973 there was an eleaction to consolidate the Batesville high school students with the Uvalde school district. The school district released information to the public where it stated that the Batesville students in grades K-8 would continue to attend their school in Batesville. On May 10, 2007 the Uvalde superintendent with other members of the board held a meeting with the parents of Batesville students to inform them about “educational and co-curricular opportunities for future 7th and 8th graders”. During this meeting the superintendent stated that the move of the Batesville Jr. High to Uvalde was still being discussed and had not been decided.
Hi and welcome back!
I hope you’ve been enduring this unstable weather; sun, rain, sun rain. And, predictably, I’m just glad that it’s kept summer from actually taking effect. I’m sure anyone that’s survived a Texas summer knows that the worst is yet to come, temperature-wise.
The last time it was this bad was in 2002 when we had all that flooding. Yeah, we had a green summer, but that meant we didn’t have a winter until December. So much for our “drought” conditions, right? I guess there won’t be any water rationing this summer.
Dear Editor,
I was asked by La Voz if I had ever spoken to a board member about the moving of the [Batesville] school.
Then I recalled speaking with Mr. [Allen] Mize and Mr. [Wendell] Brown. In a conversation held with Mize, I mentioned to him about in November about a rumor on moving 7th and 8th graders to Uvalde.
(April 13, 2007)
Dear Dr. Brown,
I am writing to inform you that I will not be meeting with you as per your request, and for the following reasons. First, I do not know what the subject matter or concern is about that you will be talking about. You or whoever made the decision not to have a monthly board meeting made the wrong decision.
I called T.A.S.B. and asked for a legal opinion. I was told that depending on the subject matter and or discussion it could be a violation of the law. It certainly appears to me to be unethical to discuss anything that could have been discussed in a regular school board meeting, and thus a possible violation of the law. I am of the opinion that it is unethical to poll a board member or talk about a decision to be made at a later date. Depending on public input, you might have to put up with me for another three years, or perhaps until May 12, 2007.

Dear Editor,
The Uvalde Leader-News published an article on June 24, 2007, stating that the Uvalde High School gym would be open to UCISD students for summer recreation.
The old farmhand contemplated the star filled night sky. Through his mind there ran innumerable unanswered questions as he reflects over the immensity of the universe. Like millions of humans before him, he feels insignificant in the face of so many perplexing incomprehensibles; so many questions, so much in tranquility. How limited our understanding, how limited the intelligence of man.
