They say we’re headed for another depression. The way I see it, perhaps that’s good thing, in a way.
People everywhere are complaining about gas prices, food costs, and everything costing way too much. That may be true, but it seems to me that people don’t like the high prices because they can’t continue in the same way they always have. Read the rest of this entry »

In this issue a map of Uvalde has been provided, (see opposite page) along with the locations of present and past city council members.

The members reflected on the map are representative of 14 years of city government from 1994 to 2008. A total of 17 council members were identified and the approximate locations of their residency were placed on the map based on information provided by the city. Read the rest of this entry »

We need to stand up for our water rights. It seems to me now that Uvalde has sold our water to San Antonio because they owed them. So, certain lucky ranchers will “sell” their water rights, and allow companies to come and drill big wells to pump the water right out from under our feet, from the underground Uvalde pool. Hi and welcome back!
Well, Summer’s here although I think it’s somewhat obvious by the inordinately high temperatures, turning the a/c’s up to 11, and hiding out in cool places during the day like a Texas vampire.
Don’t get me wrong, summer’s fun if you’re a kid out of school or have lots of summer activities planned like cook-outs and trips to the river, but if you’re stuck at a job where you can’t get out and enjoy yourself, the best thing to do is count the days until October gets here and we finally get a break from the heat (by Halloween, if we’re lucky). Hi and Welcome!

Again, this will have to be a short one. The graduation issue is always packed with ads and well-wishers so I have to trim down my space to make things fit. A big “congrats” to all area graduates – hope your dreams come true! Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve gone back to using WordPress as a website because it’s much easier having to do it this way and easier to keep track of than the regular website.

Another reason is that I’ve recently switched computers and all the website info was on the old comp and it was too much of a hassle to switch everything to the new one. I figure this way everything stays in the same place and easier to mange. It also more features and a cleaner look than the website, in my opinion, anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

With the start of another hot summer, Uvalde water is once again being eyed by San Antonio water resource groups with the intent of securing water and possibly leaving Uvalde high and dry – literally.

La Voz spoke with Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA Dist. 14) board member Mario Cruz concerning his recent visit with representatives from the Southwest Texas Water Resources (STWR), LP group of San Antonio. In what Cruz describes as “dangling a carrot” in front of Uvaldeans to entice them to sell their water rights, STWR’s main goal is to secure a long term water supply for a water pipeline from Uvalde County to the San Antonio metropolitan area. One of my earliest memories of Daddy is waking up to the sound of his voice, calling my name tenderly: “Andy….Andy, despierta, Mija.” I would sit up groggily and he and Mom would load my brother Nóne (Juan) and me into our old black car. We would then head out to say “Buenos días”, first to Buelita María (Mom’s mom) and then to Buelita Túles (Daddy’s Mom). Sometimes, Nóne’s dog, Reddy, would chase the car as far as Santos Drugstore, then he would turn around and go home. (It was very easy for Reddy to keep up with us, since Daddy would seldom drive over 20 mph.) After we’d kissed our grandparents and visited for a while, we would go back home and have breakfast. This daily ritual taught us that we must honor, respect and love our grandparents above anything else.
