While the Coyotes did defeat Crystal City 22-12 last Friday, it was mostly due to the efforts of the special teams. From what I understand, Coach Trevino wasn’t too happy with the Coyotes’ performance at the halftime mark and let the team know of what one might describe as his ’strong displeasure’ with their performance. Friday night’s game against the Billies proved to be a game of endurance, After a first half that resulted in a tie and both teams not gaining much ground against the other, I can see that the reasons the Coyotes won is because they outlasted Fredericksburg.

In the first quarter, the Billies were connecting on both running and passing plays due to them being slightly faster than the Coyotes. However, the plays didn’t seem to go any further than that and I see them as still being a young team. The Billies will be a team to be reckoned with later on in the season.

As for the Coyotes, luck seemed to be on their side as they managed to convert the Billies’ mistakes into scoring opportunities. The trend continued into the second half as the Coyotes scored two more times against an ineffective Fredericksburg defense that seemed to lose their ability to keep up with the Coyotes’ running attack.

Next week, the Coyotes travel to Crystal City to take on the Javelinas.
